I'm actually considering picking up blacksmithing just to be able to make these BoP boots, then dropping it. Am I insane? What are the alternatives? Boots of the ProtectorBinds when picked up Feet Plate 1105 Armor +48 Stamina +22 Intellect Durability 75 / 75 Requires Level 70 Equip: Increases defense rating by 26. Equip: Increases your shield block rating by 17. Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 27. Red Havoc BootsBinds when picked up Feet Plate 1105 Armor +49 Stamina Durability 75 / 75 Requires Level 70 Equip: Increases defense rating by 32. Equip: Increases your shield block rating by 25. Equip: Increases the block value of your shield by 30.

Tide-stomper's GreavesFeet Plate 1213 Armor +56 Stamina Red Socket Yellow Socket Socket Bonus: +4 Stamina Durability 75 / 75 Requires Level 70 Equip: Increases defense rating by 19. Equip: Increases your dodge rating by 29. Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 30. Boots of the ResilientFeet Plate 1105 Armor +51 Stamina Red Socket Yellow Socket Socket Bonus: +4 Stamina Durability 75 / 75 Requires Level 70 Equip: Increases defense rating by 25. Equip: Increases your shield block rating by 25. Battlescar BootsFeet Plate 997 Armor +18 Strength +28 Stamina Red Socket Blue Socket Socket Bonus: +3 Parry Rating Durability 75 / 75 Requires Level 70 Equip: Increases defense rating by 23. Equip: Increases your parry rating by 21. Boots of the Protector are nice... but even the Karazhan ones have more stamina. If you can get your hands on any of these, then it's not worth leveling up blacksmithing just for those. And if you do level up blacksmithing for boots, get the Red Havoc ones.

If I smoke enough crack to level blacksmithing to 375, you KNOW that I'll make BOTH BoP boots.

On my server (Kargath), a stack of copper is going for 3 gold each. You are either going to spend a LOT of time mining or a LOT of gold at the AH. Either option seems painful.

there are too many nice things to drop BSing after leveling it up. Plus in the next XPac there will be even more goodies. If you decide to level it, keep it.

with the new boots u can get from heroic badges it would be a waste to level up BS just for them.

Apologies for ressurecting an ancient thread but would this work though? I'm a smith with the boots but I was led to believe if you dropped smithing then you'd no longer be able to wear the bop boots as they are for Blacksmiths only?

It takes the Blacksmithing skill to make them, not wear them. Take for instance the Primal Mooncloth set, if you make the items, then drop the skillyou lose the set bonus from tailoring. You still keep the items and can still equip, but you lose the set. In this case you drop the skill that gave you the ability to create the boots. As the boots are already bound to you with no prequalificaiton of the blacksmithing skill to actually wear the boots, you can still use them. Sign here, here and here.

I've actually heard from a guildie who did that with Tailoring, and went to repair the items only to find out they couldn't. With tankadins having huge repair bills constantly, I would get something from a blue or admin on the forums before I leveled bs and dropped.

With tailoring, most of the epic crafted tailoring sets require a specific tailoring specialization. If you switch specializations, you'll end up with items that you can wear, but you can't repair. If an item requires a profession skill or specialization to equip, it will say so in the tooltip. The Boots of the Protector and Red Havok boots both bind when you create them, but don't have a profession requirement to use.

Now we're sort of on the subject.
Is it worth crafting those two epic jewelcrafting trinkets and use them together? I'm not sure how they match up to other trinkets available to someone at an early Kara level.

Wotlk u are going to be able to socket your weapons. http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=50465All reports say you will only be able to do it to your own gear if you have blacksmithing. I have blacksmithing and have debated many times on dropping it for alchemy so I can get the philosopher's stone. Looks like I'm not going to now.

The [Figurine - Empyrean Tortoise] and [Figurine - Crimson Serpent] are two of the best pally trinkets you can get for a VERY long time. The Tortoise is almost identical to a trinket that drops from SSC, the [Scarab of Displacement], except that the Tortoise lasts longer and doesn't have the negative effect. The stamina alone on the Serpent is almost as much as a Darkmoon card, but it also has intellect and an on-use spell damage effect with a low cooldown. So, yeah, they are pretty awesome compared to anything you'll see before Kara and probably for some time after Kara as well.

Oh very interesting thanks - now I'm torn between dropping smithing and levelling engineering for the helm or keeping smithing hoping that the WotLK promises of sockets, shields and invulnerability for smiths are true...
